I'm looking to get a new DS within the next couple of months and am looking for information and suggestions on any quality breeders in or near South Carolina. The dog's main purpose will be a pet so I do not want one with too strong of aggression in its bloodlines and from what I've read the nearest breeder to me, AlphaK9, produces such dogs. I am particularly interested in any information anyone has on Vom Haus Hall in Reidsville, NC or MW-K9 in Marietta, SC.
Thanks
Any breeder suggestions near SC?

Re: Any breeder suggestions near SC?
Almost all Dutch Shepherds being bred stateside come from KNPV "working" lines and are going to be more reactive- that is what they were bred for. As far as temperament is concerned they are still highly reactive animals- more so than just about any other dog breed there is. I would research this breed to see if it is right for your family before just going out and getting one. They are great dogs but they take a ton of work and dedication. Very strong willed animals to say the least.

I suppose I should have mentioned I have owned a DS previously. I believe he was more laid back than most but I'm certainly up to handling one with high drive, really just don't with higher than normal agresion levels if it can be helped.

In my opinion, a dutch shepherd should not have a pet title. They need to be worked ALL THE TIME. I have a ten week old and I want to pull my hair out because he is so much work. Nothing even close to my German shepherds. From what I have heard all dutchies are like this
Alyssa R, Violet, Vex and puppy*on the way*

Re: Any breeder suggestions near SC?
Even though Alphak9 seems to have a bad reputation on this forum, I have a now 6 month old male pup from them that I couldn't be happier with. I have not noticed or experienced anything I would describe as strong aggression. He is a handfull of course, but nothing over the top. The guy at Alphak9, Bobby, was very helpful to me and seemed very passionate about the breed. Just my 2cents on alpha since they seem to get bashed a bit on here.

Re: Any breeder suggestions near SC?
Interesting to hear a positive on AlphaK9 since most of what I've read about them on here hasn't been great. When I say pet I mean that I won't be entering competition s or seeking titles. I will still work on obedience and learning new things continuously, as well as plenty of time on walks, hikes, swims, and Frisbee and ball sessions. Like I said, I've had a DS before and I've also had a couple of border collies so I know about the needs of high drive dogs.

Re: Any breeder suggestions near SC?
Everyone's concern here is that whenever someone comes along on this forum wanting information on buying one of these dogs is whether or not they truly understand the needs of this specific breed of dog. Whether or not the buyer is dedicated to making sure the dogs are properly exercised, given structure, obedience etc.

Re: Any breeder suggestions near SC?
I understand and appreciate that, I love the breed and want to see what's best for it and I hate seeing instances where dogs have to be rehomed because the owners didn't know what they were getting into. What I'm really looking for is a good breeder nearby, if I can't find one I wouldn't mind driving several states away if necessary but I'd rather not have to if need be.
