Puppies

Post by Joxgirl »

How many people here have brought home a 8 week old puppy and or have brought home an older puppy? What was your reason for the age of the puppy you brought home? And what is the cut off age of what is considered a puppy.
This is a spin off question to another persons post.

I brought my dog home at 6 weeks being it was a friends litter I watched grow and picked my pup and wanted to start imprinting... 8 weeks is best that's perfect age to start bonding and shaping behaviors and well as good time to pull from the others in the litter and mom completely ... Yoda just matured at 3 1/2 (he's 4 now) so I considered him a puppy till then... up to 2 years they are pretty much puppies mind wise... this is my opinion on behavior and growing... some dogs mature early some later

At 8 weeks you can shape the dog and customize the dog to your routine and activity level and build a solid relationship! Older is ok just depends on your needs for the dog... I'm speaking for someone who trains for schutzhund and uses the dog for my dog training companies demo dog

I got Endeavor at fifteen months, and she is glued to me since the first day. She's affectionate with the whole family, but dedicated to me.

I think when a dog is loved, and well cared for, they will become devoted. Both our current dogs were older puppy rescues. Our DS will be a young puppy.

I got Thalie at 1.5 year old and Sadie as a puppy. They were just available at that age. Personally, I dont want to do puppies. I am too busy
