May 2017 - Question of the Month

Post by centrop67 »

Over on the Facebook owners page, there was a picture of a DS staring out the window of the house.

The first thing I noticed was that the horizontal blinds were in perfect shape.

In my house, I had to make some modifications the front window to account for dog versus blind action. I limited the blinds to only the top half of the window with a layer over the window that lets light in but makes everything blurry. ;)

I will share a photo a little later so you can get an idea of what I am talking about.

The question of the month is...

Have you had to make modifications to your front window to account for your Dutch Shepherd?

If you did post a comment on what you did.

My windows are not the problem and its only with Sadie, as usuall. Thalie is so well behaved. I cannot put the screen door in my front door or Sadie will go right though it and eat the UPS driver. I have to keep the glass in all year long. The back door, every year i have to replace the screen. One day , I had my windows open and the UPS driver came and Sadie was barking like crazy at the window, and i saw her running back to her truck HAHAHAHAHA

I've had a client send a video from their security camera of the FedEx guy walking past my truck and when the dog lit up he tossed the package and ran lmao 😂

I, too have a blurry covering on the kitchen window. However, the coating is not one that *I* applied :g_wink:
En can see a rabbit fifty yards away through two weeks worth of nose drool on the window. I can barely see the glass. Must have x Ray vision.

I should add that she does rear up onto the curtain rod to spy on me while I'm placing hides. She did pull it down once. It's slightly bowed now, but largely unnoticeable. Might even be able to see it in the picture of her and my kid.

Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

With xander I have not had to make any modifications. He does put his feet up at the doors and windows to look out and bark and growl at people coming up but has not damaged anything.

My last DS, Rawly, however, actually crashed through the picture window in the front. He had severe thunderstorm phobia. For some reason he wanted to escape the house during thunderstorms. After repairing the window and a few staples in his leg I had to do major modifications. I covered the entire picture window with thick plexiglass on the inside to keep him from busting through it. He was a mess when it came to storms but a great dog otherwise.

I'll have to get back to you after my pup is given the freedom from his cage. However, I can tell you this. I'm pretty sure that, if he was left out all day and unsupervised, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a house left, let alone shades.

This picture was taken on May 4th. He's a really good boy...when he's in there!
