Facebook page.Diesel has been rubbing his eyes with his paws or rubbing his face on the carpet on and off for a few years now. I can't tell you how many times I have been to the vet about it. It seems to come and go.
There are times when it will get slightly red around his eyes (from rubbing) and then it will go away for a few months. It is not seasonal, it seems to be random. We have done the food trials to determine if it is something he eats but no luck. He is currently on a grain free food, very high quality.
The last time we went to the vet, he had me give him the advantage treatment once a month to eliminate any sort of parasite or similar skin bugs. But it came back.
I am right out of ideas...has anyone had any similar experiences? Should I go spend a fortune on allergy testing?
I will try to get a picture of his eye area this afternoon.

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I can sympathize with you, but no solutions. I have similar issues with mine...frustrating and I feel for you and Diesel.
Maybe someone else can be more helpful with your specific situation...

Same here. I notice he does it less when I vacuum my bedroom carpeting. Anybody want to come and rip it out for me while I'm disabled here?
Anyway, likely allergic to dust/mold/mites. You can get your dog tested to find out which if you don't mind spending the cash.

- Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.

What sucks is that if you have one of the really large allergy testing panels run at a specialists office it might just come back saying he is allergic to the natural flora of your area. Or just dust and things...so thats no fun.

As far as rubbing eyes, I dont know either, I would also say allergic to something but not sure what that would be. Is there something outside maybe he is getting in his eye? Rolling in something?
