Rescue

Post by pdlucky »

I found a post the other day on craigslist where this person was wanting to find a Dutch Shepherd and I emailed the lady and told her about this site and suggested she come here and read up and she may be able to find someone who can help her find one. Well yesterday I was looking at petfinder.com and there was a post in Salem of a Dutch Shepherd mix without a picture. I email the link to the lady who was looking and I got a reply back today thanking me for my email because she went and got the pup. I asked her to send me a picture of the pup I will post if when she does.

How fun...I'm always lurking on craigs in the pet section. Just in case. It drives my boyfriend insane.

I hope it works out. Cannot imagine someone who looks for a DS on Craigslist, nor someone who buys a pup in just a matter of days/weeks.

She has joined the forum but I haven't seen her introduction yet. She sent me a pic of the pup. It is very cute. They also have an older Husky that wasn't to thrilled about the pup.

Congrats on helping set up a match!! Hopefully they are perfect for each other and they have you to thank for putting them together! Very cool! I wish all rescue adoptions happened that fast :-)

You might be surprised. We actually picked up our second Dutchie as a rescue from Craigslist. Lurked the pet section for months along with the rescues when we were thinking about adding another Dutchie. Oddly enough, she's turned out to be one of the most well adjusted, driven dogs I've had (coming from a mild sporting dog competition background of GSDs, Mals, and more recently Dutchies). :D
Travis -> human (of questionable sanity)
Doggies:
  • 1 senior NADSR rescue dutch shepherd
1 pocket Dutchie tennis ball addict
    1 geriatric pomeranian (yaps incessantly)

The best 2 dogs, which are ds, that I have ever had and cared for I got off Craigslist. While he isn't by any means a good breeder, there is no telling where Merlin would be now, if I hadn't bought him. I always look around on there, you never know what pup might need help :) Merlin is an amazing dog and has helped me out many of times. You would never guess he was the poor pup he was when I got him. :)

Well, please everyone let us know about Craigslist sightings. We have a local version called "Local Sales Network." Any Dutch that I have found on there has been from desperate folks and I usually can get the person in touch with rescue and filter the dogs through that route.

I found my Malinois on Craigslist and she is great. I got lucky, it was without meeting her first.

I found Remington on Craigslist as well and I have gotten extremely lucky with him. He is a great dog and I didn't have the chance of meeting him and letting him meet our Lab/pit mix and our cat before I brought him home and he is turning out to be a truely great dog. He is super sweet and loves to learn.

This thread got me thinking so I decided to take a peek at craigslist and found a woman with a 14 month old Female DS that she has tried to place in 3 different homes and the people keep bringing the dog back. Apparently this dog was never properly socialized and isnt doing well with people but doing fine with other dogs.

I'm directing her to the rescue organization listed here, and hope she contacts them. I can probably keep her for a while until rescue can get her or a proper home is found. Hank just turned 1 yr old and I don't have the time or space for another dog right now. I hope it all works out and I'll keep everyone posted, I'm going to meet them tomorrow

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. He died july17,2012. i am dying without him. www.youtube.com/tracesobaka www.dogster.com/dogs/637612
