Tell us about yourself: I live on Long Island and adopted Harley through Belgian Malinois rescue when she was 10 months but more and more I think she may be Dutch Shepherd or at least mostly Dutch Shepherd. She is the most awesome silver color and an awesome agility dog and almost ridiculously loves her balls & frisbees. She sweet natured and the most loyal & loving dog I've owned!

Hi - Loving this group and learning so much! I adopted Harley from Belgian Mal Rescue but as you can see from her color (silver-grey) she is not standard .... anything.... but she acts & looks so much like a dutch except she's silver ... if it was a black & white world you wouldn't know the difference... She's so loving & unique - people stop me in their cars to ask about her! She's also getting ready for her first CPE agility trial and I think she'll rock it!

Thank you! She is very high drive! high prey drive! always alert, very good with people & kids, wary of other dogs unless she knows them, very very sweet natured (most people don't expect her to be and are surprised).

Werlcome person from Long island. You have a beautiful dog.
Would you mind creating a signature in your profile (left top of page) and telling us if you have a name M/F so we get a better idea of who we are talking to? Please?

I agree that the dog is pretty, but.... :?
If the dog comes from a rescue, it is probably already spayed/neutered and breeding is out of the question. Thank God, I would say. Because honestly, pretty coloring alone is never a reason to breed. Not in our working breed(s) at least!

It would be nice to have more than just the breed standard Pegge, Kikkert, Schaars or whatever lines that all our dogs have. People delete half the dogs past the fourth or fifth generation out of the database because of this. We need more working breedable females for sure.

And the color of the dog has what to do with workability???? The solution to having more "working breedable females" is for more people to work good females instead of proving the males and pulling the bitches out of the kennel every 6 months to let them see the light of day. I'm not saying that is in any way what you do, but the color of a dog has NOTHING to do with it being a working breedable female.......and those sure as heck don't come out of rescue.

Christie's right, breeding a different dog for the sake of it being different is what leads to unwanted puppies. Sure, people might like an odd color, but if it can't do what the breed was meant to do, then why add to the pet population? Just to get something that looks a bit different? There are breed standards. Sure, if there's an exceptional dog that's not to standard but can really work and is proven, it should be considered in a program because of working skills, but not solely because it isn't to standard. Ever notice the large variety in pitbulls out there and how many pitbulls and pittie mixes are in shelters?

Harley's gorgeous by the way. It looks like her color was just rinsed off. Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of other rescue dogs here, my Odin included.
