Facebook page.we have adopted another DS (mix thingy) I posted in the photos forum about Nico and he arrived via commercial flight (smoothest thing ever so glad we didn't try ground transport!) yesterday afternoon.
Stella was hella barky and throwing a fit at first but last night I had her on her leash and my husband had Nico on his and she approached him calmly he stood perfectly still while she sniffed him up and down... lots of butt sniffing... she put her neck over the back of his... then her paw on his back.... neither of them made any noise.... she had her e color on and I had my finger on the button just waiting for her to eat the poor little pup but she didn't! I have no idea what she was doing to him but it almost seemed ritualistic HA..... now this morning she got barky again when she realized he was still here so I know this will take some time but I'm happy with how day 1 went!
Now Nico.... he is the oddest looking little thing ever... he has crazy hips and lays like a frog.... he barks like a beagle (it's hilarious) and is as sweet as can be... he has no interest in toys.... doesn't take a second glance at squirrels and is pretty much the exact opposite of Stella. He looks shepherdy... kinda... houndy... maybe pitty and there has to be a touch of frog in there.... I'm so glad we decided to get another rescue... they really compliment each other.... the next few weeks will be an adjustment for everyone... I'm so used to my super obedient... drivey... machine dog... and now I have this puppy (16 months) that is just a big marshmallow and maybe a moron but I LOVE him.... here are some pics!

Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. It's a great feeling!
and yes lol five plus two I have a 12 year old stepdaughter (lives with us in the summer) then my husband I have 3 boys (9,6, and 4) and a 16 month old daughter... I homeschool too so my house gets a little busy!

Congratulations!
Our Hilde used to lie with the frog legs when we first got her @ 7 months old. I don't recall seeing her do it lately (now at 14 months), but maybe I just don't notice it anymore?

We are a family of rescues, (yeah, me included), in Southern California. My wife and I currently have two dogs, a Golden Retriever/ GSD mix by the name of Morgan, and our DS mix(?), Dinga Roo. We had never even heard of a Dutch Shepherd before until we were stalked by this nice lady in the pet store who asked us if Roo was a DS. Dang if that lady wasn't on to something. I just found this site, so here we are....

What an expressive face! Dinga used to lay with her legs straight back like that. I can't remember seeing her do it in the last few years.
