I WILL be a new Dutch Shepherd owner on July 20th!!! Puppies are on the ground and a huge litter at 14! Very excited. I chose the Dutch because I like high drive dogs and my husband likes shepherds. We both have had GSDs in our past. I also am interested in search and rescue training. I live in the mountains of California and have two older Australian Shepherds. I do know that I have a job managing this pack. My husband is on board with it all. No kids. Both of us have flexible jobs. We are active folk but aging! ;-))
Still we mountain bike, hike, cross-country ski and my husband runs. I walk in the woods with the dogs 3 times a day and we are lucky to have US Forest right out the door. So that is it.

Hi Nick. I just took in my puppy, now 10 weeks old from Les Flores in Washington. Les is a super nice guy. He does have a female left from this breeding (Eran and Funky both FCI and both Dutch imports from Le Dobry Kennels). He is pretty well regarded as a DS breeder, I believe. At any rate I was very impressed with the way he raised the puppies and the reports he sent the buyers and the way he tested puppies. So I recommend him. If older dogs are okay, you might check in with Trudy at the DS rescue. (See links below).
The other thing I recommend is that you really know you want a DS. Do your research. Two weeks into it and I can report this is not an easy dog to raise. They are super high drive and will test you. So make certain you know what you are getting into. As lots of questions here. I can say two weeks into it that it is like a full time job raising this type of puppy.

Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. and there are some DS and mal puppies showing up in shelters. just in mid may I got the most wonderful, wanting-to-please 12 week old puppy from texas. a likely litter-mate brother has since shown up. of 6, he would rank #2; he is beautiful,charming, very able, and a very fast and willing learner [ puppy on left in the current, but about-to-be-replaced DSf masthead ].

- Tell us about yourself: I was in the Military as a Military Working Dog Handler/Trainer for 10 years and have recently got out. My husband and I are just starting up a small kennel where we Rehabilitate, train Agility, Personal Protection, OB, and Retrieval. Looking to see who is out there that loves the Dutchies as much as we do.
