I haven't been on here in a little while, life is crazy these days, lol :) But I did want to share an updated pic of my boy that my friend took yesterday. I love this boy so much, and he is so handsome in pictures. He may not be the ideal dog according to standard, but I am quite pleased with him. He is 21 months old :)

Wowza wowza !!!!!!!!!!!! What a gorgeous fella!!!! Pfftt, breed standard, lol, he is magnificent ! Look at that rich color in his coat.

We need to put him and Sadie together, they are built alike.

Gorgeous dog! My Enzo, just over a year old now, has a very similar structure. A big, tall boy. So, what about him is "wrong" according to the standard?

Thanks everyone :) The main fault I know he has is his tail, it curls when it is up. But that is just part of his charm. lol.

We are a family of rescues, (yeah, me included), in Southern California. My wife and I currently have two dogs, a Golden Retriever/ GSD mix by the name of Morgan, and our DS mix(?), Dinga Roo. We had never even heard of a Dutch Shepherd before until we were stalked by this nice lady in the pet store who asked us if Roo was a DS. Dang if that lady wasn't on to something. I just found this site, so here we are....

Very handsome indeed. Roo's tail curls up just like that. (But it has a mind of it's own).

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. speaking from experience, when tails are like that on a DS, they are much more animated and cover much more territory in their expressive wanderings - thus making mischief and doing potential damage many magnitudes greater than less upright and curly tails. so be careful what you wish for in that regard. having said that, i would gladly make that trade-off as i love the look and communicative possibilities of tails like Gage's. think it is gorgeous.
