Crate drama

Anyone have any training tips to help a dog not cry in the crate the second they realize you're home? Hendrix still cries like a drama queen but if I'm not here or if I walk out the door he shuts up. Not a peep. It's clearly an attention seeking behavior; he sounds way different when it's a real emergency. He gets into the crate without a problem but he seems to decide when I'm home he's not supposed to be in there. Tough luck to the service men or any cleaning I need to do. And if you manage to trick him into thinking you're not there you cannot make a noise. It's rather pathetic.

Crate games don't work. Waiting him out takes a minimum of two hours and doesn't seem to discourage him. Any thoughts???

Sadie makes horrific noices but only when I go right up to the crate to let her out, then I wait for her to stop and sit before I unlatch it. That usually only takes a second.

I used to just wait her out when she would bark if she was in there for a reason. The only thing I can think of is to put him in for a short time and when he is quiet, let him out and see if it can go longer and longer?

Thats all I can think of. Oh,,,,,,,,,,,,ear plugs??????

I think I lost an earplug in my ear somewhere.... That just means it's permanent right Lisa????

I'll try that. He's learned a new howl/bark/cry that's like nails on chalkboard.... Today after two hours of it I threatened to have his head on a pike and he farted at me. Stopped, looked at me, farted, and then did this panting laugh. Happy Furmom day to me. At least he stopped!!
