Hello, all! my name is Sara and I am quite proud to own a Dutchie. His name is Toji, and he was a rescue as a very wee lad. He was my first Dutchie and the first dog my husband and I got together. He is absolutely fabulous. Its like cuddling a baby horse, of course, with all those legs, but still the best cuddle buddy, ever. Also, I am 21 weeks pregnant and he is the most doting dog and seems very vigilant and excited about the baby. He has become very gentle with me and won't let me out of his sight. Wants to lay his head on my belly and walks up each individual stair as I do. And the way he looks at me with those brown eyes, well you already know! Here are a few pictures of my wonderful boy. In my opinion, the perfect dog.

Welcome! He is beautiful. One word though about the baby, dont be too comfortable with him around the baby, they are protective and may not take to the baby right away. They can also not be tolerant of how babies poke dogs. DS are not really family dogs, even though everyone here is a family, these dogs were not bred to be family dogs, so be aware please.

I agree with Lisa about being vigilant. My kids are school aged and I have lower drive dogs and I am still very vigilant because (my female, especially) doesn't like to tolerate when they're annoying. And kids are super annoying. LOL. I wouldn't be too convinced your dog is excited about the coming baby; that's really attributing human emotions to him and that can sometimes be a dangerous thing. Dogs don't really think like that.

Toji is about 2 1/2.

Toji's behavior towards me has definitely changed since I've been pregnant. He is much more gentle and attentive of me and always wants to have eyes on me. My other dog couldn't care less.

I am actually more worried about how my mixed dog will be with baby. She is not very gentle or understanding with my cats. My Toji has never given me any kinds of behavioral problems with children or several other species of animals. Its hard to explain, but he and I just click and I guess I just know my dog!

I totally get the clicking part. Thalie and I are one, Sadie, well.............................

Thalie is lower drive and gets along with everyone and all animals, even the gerbils. you can do anything to her and she wont even consider growling or anything. Sadie, no way. At night she gets cranky, and the kids leave her alone. She is not very huggy and I would not have a baby near her. She will play and love the kids, but only on her terms and no one elses.

Like Mobil said, we give dogs people lables, Be very careful with the DS around the baby, Being a mix, he may be better than a pure DS, but dont get comfortable and keep him away.
