Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.
I keep a big water bowl on Geyser's food mat in the kitchen, always full of fresh water (we have wonderful well water here). In the bathroom, I keep a much smaller bowl for the kitties. They don't drink a lot of water, but I want it available when they want it.
The two bowls contain the same damn water...freshened as needed daily.
Which water bowl does Geyser prefer? You guessed it, the kitties' bowl. She will walk from the kitchen to the bathroom to drink from that bowl, with the same water available in the kitchen . Go figure

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.
Well, my cat would never drink out of her water bowl, no matter how fresh I'd keep it. He preferred the toilet. Then when we got Sugar, he would drink out of her water dish. And he hates the dog. Whats that about?
She just prefers the privacy of the bathroom
Dingo only drinks from the bowl in winter, during summertime it's pond-water only
Ivil has a funny thing, she always covers her eyes with a paw if she is really comfy and cosy
Another stupid thing, they go ballistic, especially dingo, when they hear the scene from Pirates of the Carribean where Davy Jones says "Do YOU fear death?" to Jack Sparrow

Jetson sleeps on his back with his legs in the air I can never get a picture though because I'm not as stealthy as I'd like to think I am, and always manage to wake him before I can sneak up with the camera.
Tell us about yourself: I have had a DS for almost a year. Gwen and I are considering participating in PSA and or possible Ring Sport. I also have a Great Dane. I have grown up around working GSDs and my last GSD was a working K9 officer. I am all about dogs and animals in general and want to learn as much as I can about training.
lol!!! GWen sleeps all twisted up on her back too and you're right... I can never sneak up on her to get a picture. She also has to get up at night or whenever to go to the bathroom with me... it is like having a child...

Tell us about yourself: I live in North Monterey County, CA with my husband, three step kids, one gorgeous and wonderful Dutch Shepherd and a whole bunch of livestock type animals. The humans are into sustainable farming, the dog is into chasing deer and digging up gophers. My day job is an Operations Supervisor at Santa Cruz Regional 911. One of these days, I'm going to get another DS.
Chaos does that too. If she can, she will prop herself up against something while she sleeps upside-down.
She also grumbles a lot. She's especially vocal as she's going to sleep. She groans and sighs like an old man.
"Wild water" (I love this phrase) is her ultimate favorite thing. She will do anything to get in t and then run around like a crazed animal. She also likes grass above her head so she can fling her body through it like a kangaroo-dog.
Chaos use her paws like hands, a lot. I'm not sure if this is a DS quirk but I love it. She doesn't catch toys with her moth, she catchers them with her paws and shoves them in her mouth.

Hows this for a quirk: When it rains and all the worms come out onto the pavement, Sugar will want to lay her neck down on them and roll on them....sometimes she comes up with worms stuck to her fur!

Overhere the frogs are waking up from winter-sleep... and I remembered Ivil's idiot quirk....she licks them And no, they are not the hallucnating type frogs, but she probabely read that somewhere and is trying them all out just to be sure...

And, yuck to the worms!
I think they just love to roll in gross stuff, the little buggers.

She licks them?? Frogs are fast and slippery! How does she get to them??? Thats kinda impressive.
They are German frogs...they definately are not fast They sit in the street, it's mating season for them now, so they do not care about getting licked, they probabely like it as much as Ivil ew! I stepped on one the other day...

I almost stepped on a salamander in the grass the other night. Good way to keep me off the grass and in the light. I'm terrified of stepping on one (well, anything alive).

Gwen likes to chase the frogs... thank God we don't have any here...
Gwen likes to crawl on her belly. She will first shove her head and neck into the ground, and push her self forward until her back legs are stretched all the way behind her and she drags herself forward by her front legs for four to five feet.... just weird I say and she really likes to do it in the snow.. but wet grass is good too.
