Tell us about yourself: I love Shepherds- German, Dutch and Belgian. I recently lost my 16.5 y/o GSD mix and was hoping to find a GSD or DS mix. I totally lucked out in finding Grendel, a DS/GSD mix at 9.5 weeks old. She was filthy and flea-ridden, but still the cutest, craziest thing ever. She's going to live up to her name! First dog I've had that I've actually seen the parents and definitely know what she is!

Grendel is now 11.5 weeks old. I have had her 2 weeks. It seems she is already housebroken. She's been sleeping on my bed the past two nights with the cat and I without incident (had to use my old dog's stairs so she could get up, though she's been growing and can almost jump up on her own).
Last night she sat down at the front door and looked at me. Apparently I took too long to get up to take her out, so she jumped up and actually grabbed for the door knob. I found that quite amazing.
She also knows sit, lay down and speak. Next is to get her focused enough to do those things in public :D .
I can't even imagine what she's going to be capable of as an adult.

very good !!! They are super smart. Its so much fun until they figure something out you didnt want them to

Teach her to " look" . that is a very important tool to help you in so many occasions.

Say "LOOK" then stare at her until she looks at you, first it will be for a second, then mark the behavior. Then have her hold it a bit longer and a bit longer. Keep it short though for a bit until she gets a good grasp, she is also young to hold her attention for very long anyway.

When in public go someplace sort of quiet but with people in the distance and have her look at you. Practice your positions for a bit. When someone passes you, take her to the side, sit and look until the person passes. Again, it will be short looks for a while, but keep testing her by holding it for tiny moments longer.
