Hello Group

Hello Everyone,

I am not owned by a Dutch Shepherd yet but my husband and I are looking and learning. I currently own 4 Dobermanns and Breed them also.
We do IPO ( Schutzhund) with our Dobes and are planning to step up our game to a Dutchie :wtg:
We belong to a fairly high competitive GSD club and are finding the Dobes are just not cutting it working at the same level of intensity as the GSD.

Looking for advice and names of breeders who are good and reputable to work with. We are in Canada and are willing to import from Europe or look at breeders in the USA. I have done some research and spoke to two breeders / Trainers. They both seemed really nice and seemed to have nice dogs from what they said. Being in Dobes for almost 10 years I know who's who out there , So this is all new ground and am feeling rather lost.
Hoping people could help with what lines are good for a novice Dutch Shepherd owner and what kennels are less then reputable for us to stay away from.

Looking forward to reply's and getting to speak to some of you !!

:dswink"

Welcome fellow Canadian. What part of Canada?

There are lots of people on this forum that have lots of knowledge about DS, so you'll get some good feedback :)

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum!

Without recommending any specific breeders (well ok - Asheley Winters...), I would just recommend specifically looking at what any specific breeder has actually produced. Every brindle litter is a "working" litter if you ask the breeder. And many breeders have produced a lot of nice dogs.....but many of them have just produced A LOT of dogs. I like to look at percentages. If a breeder makes 100 puppies a year and have 10 that we can name..that's only a 10% working rate. Not good enough for my taste. Other breeders only have a few litters a year, but a very high percentage of pups actually working. That's where I would take my money.

Additionally, please take a moment to visit the User Control Panel and create a signature that includes your name.

Thanks! And welcome again!

Thanks Christine,

That is a good idea and question to ask future breeders I speak with, Can you tell me what kennel name Asheley Winters goes by, As names of people mean nothing to me right at this point ;)

2 of my Dutch Shepherds are from Asheley (Vrijheid Dutch Shepherds - www.dutchshepherds.us) too. My 8 year old girl has her SchH3 (as well as other flyball, agility, obedience, rally and weight pull titles). And my puppy is training in Schutzhund - she's only 13 months.

Welcome!
