Dutch Shepherd rescuer here...

Post by Maggie Fan »

Hi all, Maggie here. Not currently owned by any Dutch Shepherds but have rescued and fostered several now with one on the way. I adore the breed and will have one permanently in my house one day...

Here are the ones that have passed through my house....

Questionable beginning (I suspect he was a washed out schutzhund dog, definitely introduced to a sleeve but very nervey and became quite agitated with it). He was given away to a family on a car forum and the new family could not handle him and contacted me to take him. Very high drive, amazing dog. Now happily living with two Mals doing agility, nosework, and tracking.

Pulled from Miami-Dade Animal Services - very young girl, extremely high drive, and heartworm positive. She was treated for the heartworms. I competed in dock diving with her until she was adopted to a frisbee and dock diving home.

This is the new girl coming in.... would be curious to know more about how the long-haired genes work. I know it's a recessive gene that can hide in all the short-haired dogs.

Welcome. And, thanks for the great work rescuing multiple dogs.

I got Radar from Miami-Dade Animal Services and he's been both a challenge and a great love.

I also want to say thank you for fostering our K9 friends . Our Tucker was a puppy of a rescue mother and we have enjoyed every day he has been with us. He has enriched my life and made me more active :)

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!
